Technical Bulletin No. 0045: Atmospheric Pollution Literature Review 1969 (AQTB)
The growing commitment to air quality protection in the paper industry was reflected in the attention given this subject at the NCASI 1969 Annual Meeting of Members (1). Three papers presented at this meeting related to (a) NAPCA use of emission inventories for planning programs to control air pollution; (b) description of the NAPCA-funded systems engineering study of atmospheric emissions in the wood pulping industry; and (c) a report on the NCASI program to inventory reduced sulfur emissions from individual kraft industry process units. It was reported that for new kraft mill installations it should be possible to limit reduced sulfur gas emissions to between one and two pounds of sulfur per ton of pulp produced. Studies are now in progress to more completely characterize process emissions and the effectiveness of control techniques.
