Technical Bulletin No. 0005: Methods for the Determination of Sulfur Compounds in Pulp Mill Effluent Gases (AQTB)
Results of investigations on the continuous quantitative measurement of sulfur compounds present in kraft mill stack effluents are reported in the attached National Council Technical Bulletin. This is a summation of the first year's research at Washington State College, which is directed by Dr. Donald F. Adams. Through the approach taken by this research, it is hoped that a means of providing a continuous record of relative odor levels in mill discharges and the surrounding atmosphere can be evolved. Considerable progress has been made towards development of a suitable recording instrument, and calorimetric analyses suitable for use with it. Difficulties arising from the high water vapor and CO2 content of stack gases were experienced. Methods for overcoming this difficulty are now under investigation.
