Technical Bulletin No. 0001: Trickling Filter Report
In the trickling filter process waste sulphite liquor is treated and the biochemical oxygen demand is satisfied before the waste liquor passes to the receiving waters. Over $60,OOO has been spent on the project and the apparatus has progressed from the laboratory stage to a fifteen-foot pilot plant installed at a sulphite pulp mill in Wisconsin. Dr. Harry W. Gehm, the Council’s Technical Advisor, has summarized the experimental data assembled on this project for the past four years and has prepared the attached report which is being distributed to members. The information summarized includes data on all operations up to the first of this year.
