Special Report No. 97-09: Pollution Prevention Programs in the Pulp and Paper Industry: Highlights of the 1996 Regional Meetings

Pollution prevention (P2) has been variously defined with respect to those activities that can be considered to fall under the term. The strictest definition considers only source reduction, which is a reduction in the quantity and/or toxicity of wastes generated. A broader definition encompasses all activities which reduce potential environmental impact, including reuse, recycling/beneficial use, treatment, and proper disposal.
