Special Report No. 91-09: A Survey of Pulp and Paper Industry Environmental Protection Expenditures – 1990

Based on a survey of the industry, capital expenditures for environmental protection at U.S. pulp and paper mills in 1990 were estimated to be $1,292 million, with 45% of the total being for water quality protection, 37% for air quality protection, and 18% for solid waste disposal. Total 1990 expenditures were 25% higher than those reported for 1989. Forecast environmental expenditures for 1991 are $1,330 million.
