Special Report No. 90-12: A Survey of the Pulp and Paper Industry Environmental Protection Expenditures -1989

Based on a survey of the industry, capital expenditures for environmental protection at U.S. pulp and paper mills in 1989 were estimated to be $1,039 million, with 45% of the total being for air quality protection, 39% for water quality protection, and 17% for solid waste disposal. Total 1989 expenditures were 80% higher than those reported for 1988. Forecast environmental expenditures for 1990 are $1,269 million.
