Special Report No. 90-07: An Examination of the Relationship between the Adsorbable Organic Halide Content of Paper Industry Wastewaters and Potential Aquatic Biological Effects –

In an attempt to determine whether the AOX in well treated wastewaters is of significance to the health and productivity of aquatic organisms, NCASI has (a) calculated the concentrations of AOX associated with the no-observed-effect levels documented in its experimental stream studies, and (b) examined paired AOX and bioassay data to determine whether bioassay responses are related to AOX concentrations. At the highest addition rates of effluent, corresponding to AOX concentrations in the streams of approximately 1.6 mg/L, no effects on rainbow trout growth or production were found in the Northern experimental streams.
