Special Report No. 84-10: Status of Regulation and Background Information on Management of Underground Storage Facilities

Recovery Act provisions establishing a comprehensive federal regulatory program for underground storage facilities (tanks and connected piping used to transfer the tank contents) containing hazardous substances and petroleum products. Once in place, the federal program can be expected to impose an element of consistency among evolving state and local requirements directed at the prevention and detection of ground- water contamination by leaking underground storage tanks (LUST).
