Special Report No. 80-12: Summary of the Current Status of Silvicultural 208 Programs – 1980

Section 208 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (PL92-500) calls for the development of area-wide water quality management plans to include silviculturally related nonpoint discharges. In 1979 the National Council carried out a survey covering 42 states representing over 90 percent of the commercial forest land and timber stocking in the United States to determine the status of 208 planning in these states and determine the procedures chosen to identify and control nonpoint discharges. This special report is the product of a survey carried out in late 1980 to determine the current status of silvicultural 208 programs.
