Special Report No. 80-08: Emission Trends for Particulate Matter and Sulfur Compounds from Kraft Pulping, 1968-1990

The periodic review of trends and effectiveness of the pulp and paper industry's emission control program as part of the National Council program serves several useful purposes. Among these are identification of the magnitude of emission reductions resulting from an array of regulatory programs. The attached special report is an examination of particulate and gaseous emission trends from the kraft pulping process over a period of two decades from the late 1960's until 1990. In carrying out the study, consideration was given to (a) historical and projected growth of the industry, (b) past and emission regulations, and (c) trends in unit process changes that might impact emissions.
