CC-83-036: Response to GAO Report Savings Possible Through Use of Variable Effluent Limits for Advanced Waste Treatment Projects

Attached is the official response by EPA on the GAO recommendations we distributed on January 10, 1983 as CC-83-03. In general, EPA supports the use of variable effluent limits (VELs) to offset the need for advanced waste treatment. An EPA Task Force has already documented a savings of over $500 million in capital and operating costs for 80 projects using VELs.
