CC-14-007: Proposed Standards on Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Existing Electric Generation Units

On June 18, 2014, EPA published in the Federal Register a proposal to regulate the emissions of CO2 from existing electric generation units (EGUs) [FR 79 (117) 34829-34958]. While this proposal does not appear to apply to electricity generation at pulp and paper mills it is likely to affect prices for purchased electricity and natural gas. In addition, questions have been raised about states taking measures to influence the activities of facilities besides EGUs, the scope of such measures and how demand-side reductions would be acknowledged. Consequently, this material will be of interest to all forest products industry manufacturing facilities.
