CC-13-022: EPA – Water – Notice of Availability – Final Aquatic Life Ambient Water Quality Criteria for Ammonia – Freshwater
The August 22, 2013, Federal Register announces the availability of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s final national recommended fresh water quality criteria for ammonia for the protection of aquatic life. Recommended criteria for water quality are provided by EPA to the states as guidance for adoption as state water quality standards, which in turn provide a basis for controlling the discharge of pollutants from point sources. EPA has been developing these final criteria over the last several years, and published draft criteria in 2009. This material will be of interest to all mills holding NPDES permits. Staff at mills located on streams where minimal dilution of treated effluents is available will be particularly interested.
