CC-12-020: 316(b) Rule, Cooling Water Intake Structures at Existing Facilities
The June 11 and June 12, 2012, editions of the Federal Register contained notices related to EPA’s proposed 316(b) rule for NPDES permit holders that use surface water intake structures for the withdrawal of cooling water. The June 11 notice describes changes the Agency is considering with regard to the impingement mortality, or IM, requirements. The June 12 notice relates to the preliminary results of EPA’s stated preference survey (a.k.a. willingness-to-pay survey. Neither notice suggests that EPA is considering changing the applicability requirements in the proposed rule.
