Carbon On Line Estimator (COLE)

The Carbon On-Line Estimator (COLE) is a Java-based program developed to enable examination of forest carbon characteristics of any area of the continental United States. COLE data are based on USDA Forest Service Forest Inventory & Analysis and Resource Planning Assessment data, enhanced by other ecological data.

This application ceased functioning due to a server failure in 2019. NCASI is working with US Forest Service Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) staff to not only restore COLE to a functioning state on a new server, but to begin updates to COLE’s internal estimation approaches to take advantage of recent developments in USFS forest carbon estimation.
