Work on biomass-related topics is supported by information resources and staff expertise from three NCASI programs:
- Forest Environment and Sustainability – Conducts technical studies of biodiversity, water resources, carbon cycling, soil productivity, and metrics of sustainability in managed forests. Has unique capabilities to access and analyze forest resource information produced by regional Forest Inventory and Analysis programs in the US Forest Service.
- Air Quality – Develops and maintains emission factors for wood combustion and wood processing of various types. Also develops measurement methods and evaluates control options for emission sources.
- Global Climate and Sustainability – Develops and applies LCA methods for use in quantifying the “carbon footprints” of forest products and evaluating climate policy options.
