In Memoriam: Ronald A. Yeske

Dr. Ronald A. Yeske

Ronald A. Yeske, 70, former President of NCASI, passed away on June 19 at his home in Anderson, South Carolina. Family, friends, and NCASI colleagues gathered for a memorial service held on June 25.

Dr. Yeske provided dedicated leadership to NCASI for more than 20 years, beginning in December 1994 when he succeeded Dr. Isaiah Gellman as President. Dr. Yeske retired in January 2015 after guiding NCASI through a period of organizational challenges and transitions. During his tenure, the headquarters office relocated from New York City to Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, administrative practices were significantly modernized, and NCASI membership was expanded to include Sustaining Members and forest products companies in Canada. His many enduring contributions to the organization include addressing the emerging importance of sustainability reporting by the membership, helping the industry respond to a period of unprecedented regulatory activism, and recruiting the next generation of NCASI’s leaders.

Born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Dr. Yeske earned a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, Summa cum Laude, from Marquette University, and a Ph.D. in materials science from Northwestern University. His career accomplishments prior to joining NCASI include serving as Vice President at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology, and as Dean of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He was a TAPPI Fellow and served as a member of the Board of Directors of TAPPI and its Executive Committee.

The NCASI community is greatly saddened by the untimely passing of our long-time colleague and friend, and we offer our deepest sympathies to his wife, Maril, and their daughter, Katherine.

Condolences may be sent to the Yeske family in care of Tammerah Garren, NCASI, 1513 Walnut Street, Suite 200, Cary, NC 27511; tgarren@ncasi.org.
