The Research Coordination Network (RCN) Conference on Pan American
Biofuels and Bioenergy Sustainability will be held in Recife, Brazil on July
22-25, 2014. NCASI scientists will be making presentations on topics related to
sustainability of forest biofuel and bioenergy production.

Recently, NCASI scientists participated in a
workshop titled Final Nutrition and
Habitat Models for Elk in the Blue Mountains.
Recently, the U.S. Forest Service proposed
to amend its internal agency directives for Watershed and Air Management to
establish direction for management of groundwater resources on National Forest
System (NFS) lands as an integral component of watershed management.
Results were recently published from a
large-scale study of bird community responses to forest management practices
commonly used in the central Appalachian Mountains. The treatments used in the
study reflected forest harvesting practices that have been proposed as tools
for enhancing breeding habitat for Cerulean Warbler, a declining songbird.
NCASI, the Society of American Foresters,
and the Virginia Tech Department of Forest Resources and Conservation recently
hosted a successful Symposium on Forestry
