NCASI seeking Forest Watershed Program Manager

The National Council for Air and Stream Improvement, Inc. (NCASI) is seeking an individual of high integrity to lead its Forest Watershed Program when Dr. George Ice retires in mid-2012. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with NCASI member companies to address technical information needs related to regulatory and policy issues affecting the management and harvesting of commercial timberlands. Duties will include design and implementation of scientific investigations in the fields of forest hydrology, water quality, and fish habitat; communication with leading researchers and regulatory personnel involved in these fields; monitoring and providing technical review and guidance to industry on proposed agency activities; participation in professional meetings and conferences; and presentation of findings to diverse stakeholder groups.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. in forest hydrology or a related field, or a Master’s degree in forest hydrology plus at least five years of experience. Qualifications include excellent oral and written communication skills; expertise in the theory and principles of hydrology, silviculture, forest ecology, timber harvesting, soil science, forest regeneration, and related disciplines; demonstrated knowledge of computer models and data management software commonly used in forest watershed research; strong analytical and statistical skills; experience in collecting and managing data in field studies of forest hydrology, water quality, and aquatic ecology; and a record of scientific achievement as demonstrated by
publications and professional service. Requirements of this position include extensive travel and participation in field research in remote areas with rough terrain.
